Gossip

Australian Tour December 2007

On the back of their breakthrough third album, Standing In The Way of Control, Gossip return to Australia for Meredith Music Festival, with headline dates around the country.

The three-piece punk/soul band from Searcy, Arkansas rose from the underground to the world stage with their indie dance floor hit 'Standing In The Way of Control'. Written by the indomitable front woman, Beth Ditto, the gay protest song unexpectedly became a top ten hit in the UK charts.

Outspoken and uncompromising, Beth Ditto is an icon of rock n roll non-conformity. A reminder of what our rock stars should be. From topping the NME’s ‘Cool List’ of 2006, to appearing naked on the cover of the same magazine, she has been praised by everyone from Germaine Greer to infamous gossip columnist Perez Hilton. He even invited them to perform at his private birthday party. The Guardian invited her to impart her knowledge in a column entitled, “What Would Beth Ditto Do?”

Gossip’s live show is an exercise in raw power. Ditto’s guttural Southern blues vocals overlay the jagged punk dance beats, propelling a rhythm that will drive even shy audiences wild. It’s not surprising then, that Scissor Sisters invited them to tour the UK, and that they were asked to close out the Glastonbury Festival for 2007.
