ART BRUT
Australian Tour December 2007
Art Brut will be getting indie kids dancing with their jagged songs filled with razor sharp wit as the UK band comes to Australia for the first time in December for the Meredith Music Festival and a string of headline dates.
They “formed a band”, spiked their lyrics with comedic timing and took on the music industry. Art Brut began in 2005 in the seedy confines of the London New Cross DIY scene, pumping out humble demos that fast caught the attention and hearts of the music industry and fans alike. They fast become known for ferociously funny live gigs.
Their debut album, Bang Bang Rock And Roll saw them tread the hallowed halls of rock’n’roll fame, supporting Oasis and Ghostface Killah and lead to them appearing on the cover of rock bible NME in 2007 in a mock tribute to the naked cover of The Gossip’s Beth Ditto. Frontman Eddie Argus is known for being outspoken offstage and a spitfire on stage.
Their second album It’s A Bit Complicated takes the Art Brut tongue-in-cheek brand of unabashed pop further, working with Dan Swift (Kasabian, Snow Patrol, The Futureheads and Franz Ferdinand). It was a big step for a band who wrote a song with the main lyrics being “Art Brut – Top of The Pops”. They may not have appeared on the flagship UK pop show before it was axed but they definitely earned their place right up there!
Art Brut finally brings their swag of “direct hits” to Australia. It’s a Bit Complicated is out now through Shock.
