BLACK LIPS
Australian Tour February 2010
“Well crafted songs with just the right amount of anarchic disregard for the conventions of popular songwriting that keeps the listener from losing interest as an album wears on…this band stands out against the fodder as genuine.” JMAG ****
“It’s been a few years since a band so honestly screwed up the flag for adolescent punk rock n roll tradition of blowing gum, checking out girls and causing trouble; proudly displaying all their flaws like badges …and so they should” SA Sunday Mail
Hallelujah! Yes, 2010 will see the anticipated return of the Atlanta, Georgia natives, Black Lips.
Aiming to trump the wild times had on their sold-out, inaugural Australian tour back in 2007, they’re bringing a whole lot more sweat and swagger – not mention the tracks off of their latest album, ‘200 Million Thousand’.
When they were here last they ripped the roof off of the Tote in Melbourne and could pretty much lay claim to starting each and every good vibe that rolled through that Summer. We’re kinda both scared and excited to see them back. Rolling Stone Magazine have uttered the words “Lips are one of the best live bands in America” and we believe them, having been witness to the Lip’s notoriously manic live shows. Can we handle their amazingness? Is that even a word? They’ve got more to celebrate on our shores, too. They are about to release an album with King Khan & BBQ (one half of which is playing Falls Festival NYE with The Shrines). It’s a super-group entitled ‘The Almighty Defenders’ and it’s crazy gospel-garage. They’ve also collaborated of late with the illustrious GZA of Wu Tang!
Unpredictable, infectious and downright charming, Black Lips play Laneway Festival 2010 as well as their very own headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne.
