FAMILIJIEN
Australian Tour September 2008
Familjen, which means “the family” in Swedish, is the name used for the solo electronic music project of Johan T Karlsson. They are part of the thriving Scandanavian electronic scene along with Robyn, Annie, Dungen, Royksopp and The Knife.
Their debut album ‘Det snurrar i min skalle’ was released on Tellé Records, the label that introduced the world to Datarock, Röyksopp, Annie and Kings of Convenience. Wearing their influences clearly on the outside of the record sleeve, you will easily hear that Familjen have listened to plenty of Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Daft Punk, Primal Scream and Happy Mondays in their time. The album was described by Amazon as “Hacienda in springtime, Mylo on downers, Rex The Dog’s soundsystem and A Guy Called Gerald’s dreams”. The title track ‘Det snurrar in min skalle’ (It’s Spinning In My Head) featured a video made by Johan Söderberg which has had over ½ a million views on YouTube and received a Swedish Grammy Award. Whilst the song itself has been on high rotation on Triple J.
Up until now Familjen live performances were Johan with a mic cable around his neck, pushing his black box, dancing and switching things on n’ off, but recently it was decided that his close friend Andreas Tilliander, will join in on samplers and machines.
