FRANÇOIZ BREUT
Australian Tour February 2004
Francoiz Breut has established herself as an important artist on the French music scene and has a huge underground following in Australia. Breut, who is known for melancholy, introspective lyrics and a smoky, jazz-tinged approach to pop-rock, is often compared to Marianne Faithfull, Tom Waits, Nico and Leonard Cohen, with inevitable links to such French performers as Francoise Hardy, Serge Gainsbourg and France Gall.
Her latest release, Vingt A Trente Mille Jours, released by the Bella Union label owned by Robin Guthrie and Simon Raymonde of Cocteau Twins fame, is an album of brooding grace, powerful and poetic, with a muted, slightly xylophonic orchestral pop feel.
