Australian Tour June 2022
Astral People and Handsome Tours are thrilled to announce the return Australian tour of the masters of experimental hip-hop Injury Reserve this coming June 2022.
Injury Reserve originally a trio, consisting of rappers Ritchie with a T and Steppa J. Groggs and producer Parker Corey developed a cult fanbase by their boundary-breaking and structure bending style of hip-hop. Capitalizing on the attention that they gained from their early mixtape releases, they finally released their self-titled debut album in 2019 Injury Reserve. The group’s momentum was abruptly put on hold in June of 2020 when Groggs at the age of just 32 tragically passed away.
Returning with a sophomore album, By The Time I Get To Phoenix, was largely created ahead of Groggs’ passing with his contributions. The album is a disorienting treatise on getting older and a visionary tribute.
Ritchie and Corey took the past year to complete the record, and the title has meaning past simply referencing Injury Reserve’s hometown. It’s an homage to a song that has been covered countless times, coming in step with Injury Reserve’s ethos and approach to creating music. The group pulls from several styles and eras of hip hop, but runs each one through the Injury Reserve lens, putting their own distinct and cohesive sound across their references. Nowhere is that dynamic more present than on By the Time I Get to Phoenix.
Earning praise from NPR “25 Best Hip-Hop Albums Of 2021.” The New Yorker claims the record is “unbound and, at times, alien. the album is a post-rap epic, exploding with poignant music that is hectic, congested, and glitchy. a light year.” To Medium claiming “One of the most inventive albums in recent memory.”
Off the back of their joint American tour with Armand Hammer, Injury Reserve will be bringing their trademark energy and unique genre bending style back to National stages.
