MCLUSKY
Australian Tour July 2004
mclusky were born in 1998 in Cardiff, Wales. Unlike most bands at the time they had no aspirations to become “Britpop”. They preferred the Pixies, Shellac & The Fall to Ocean Colour Scene’s warbling, Oasis’s dadrock or Echobelly’s crapness. Who can blame them?
Their second album, the excellent “mclusky Do Dallas” spawned the singles “To Hell With Good Intentions”, “Alan Is A Cowboy Killer” & “Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues”, & captured the raw, loud & spitting blood aesthetic of their live shows. An Australian tour in December 2003 saw those of us in the know experience this first hand.
And now, in 2004, things are continuing right on track. Their third album, “The Difference Between Me & You Is That I’m Not On Fire”, is a darker affair, but once again leaves no doubt whatsoever that mclusky are an essential band.
“I never saw the Pixies but I don’t care anymore. I saw mclusky & nothing else matters. Other people took the set lists & my ears still hurt so much I can’t tell left from wrong or blue from right, & the songs, well each & every one was short & hard & the US military couldn’t have dropped a cluster bomb with more impact.” Beat 24/12/04
