Australian Tour June 2009
Civil Society is proud to announce N.A.S.A.‘s June 2009 Australian tour. N.A.S.A.’s stunning debut ‘Spirit of Apollo’ has been called “one giant leap for music-kind”. The LA based duo turned a lot of heads in 2008 when they released an album featuring over 41 guest appearance with a role call that read like a who’s who of music including Kanye West, David Byrne, Lykke Li, Santogold, Karen O, MIA, Chuck D, Tom Waits, Ghostface Killah, Gift of Gab, Z-Trip, Method Man, RZA, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Kool Keith, Amanda Blank, George Clinton, Spank Rock, Nick Zinner, John Frusciante, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Qbert, The Cool Kids, and DJ AM.
Behind the moniker N.A.S.A., North America/South America, are Sam Spiegel and Ze Gonzales. Spiegel AKA Squeak E. Clean is a New York born artist/producer and brother of director Spike Jonez. His South American counterpart Gonzales, DJ Zegon, is a former pro skater from Brazil.
With its heart deep in Brazilian Funk N.A.S.A. blends indie, hip hop, funk and rock. The ability of these two relative unknowns to pull together artists of this calibre for their debut is testimony to N.A.S.A.’s mission, as an artistic endeavour to bring cross-cultural and cross-generational artists, sounds and images together to create something entirely different.
After the dust settled on the launch of ‘Spirit of Apollo’, N.A.S.A. has emerged with a live show as stunning and diverse as their album. Live they are an entirely different beast. Taking to the stage in their orange space suits with dueling pairs of decks and a massive visuals supplied by the likes of Shepard Fairey and Marcel Dzama. Their blazing live show fuses genres and influences as wildly as their album and has them being heralded as the next Girl Talk meets A-trak crossed with Pnau.
In June its Australia’s turn to reach for the stars as N.A.S.A. lands in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Perth for their Spirit of Apollo Tour.
