In a smallish US city called Minneapolis there lived four musicians who recorded an album of eleven songs, all totally “loveable and bewildering” (Rolling Stone). Combining the basement indie of Pavement, the eclecticism of Talking Heads, & the frenzied power of the Pixies, but offering not some populist pastiche, rather a vital, thrilling & unique blast of energy like nothing you have ever heard before. An album of such immediacy, beauty & uniqueness that it could not be kept a secret for very long, even though the band decided to sell & distribute this album from their house. So poorly was the secret kept that, incredibly, they shipped 10,000 copies to US stores in less than 6 months!

The band is Tapes ‘n Tapes, & the album is The Loon.

Recently signed to the XL label, Tapes ‘n Tapes have also already established themselves as a formidablly fun live proposition, proving the hit of SXSW 2006 with nine packed-out gigs in just four days as well as a sold out UK tour, with that sense of midwestern amiability evident on the record shining through in spades in the live setting.
