THE ANTLERS
Australian Tour February 2011
Civil Society is proud to announce the inaugural Australian tour of Brooklyn’s masters of emotional depth, The Antlers. On the back of their recent release ‘Hospice’, recognised by review aggregator Metacritic as being the #4 most universally-applauded release of the year, the band will undoubtedly treat Laneway audiences to an unforgettable show. The Antlers will be playing two unique double bill shows with their hometown compatriates, Bear In Heaven. They will be joined by Australia’s own Sherlock’s Daughter in both Sydney and Melbourne.
Beginning three years ago as a singer-songwriting project for Silberman, The Antlers have since expanded into a full three-piece, including powerhouse drummer Michael Lerner and the layer-lathering, multi-instrumentalist, Darby Cicci. ‘Hospice’ was the clear indication that this isn’t a singer-songwriter thing at all, says Silberman. Whatever we record next is going to define the three of us as a band.
Already garnering comparisons to classic works from Bon Iver ‘For Emma, Forever Ago’, The Arcade Fire ‘Funeral’ and Neutral Milk Hotel ‘In The Aeroplane Over The Sea’ in terms of its emotional potency and conceptual depth, The Antler’s ‘Hospice’ is one of 2009’s true indie masterpieces. Don’t miss your chance to see this astounding band live at Laneway 2011.
